Grandpa Elliott’s Famous Bar-B-Que Sauce

This is the legendary BBQ sauce recipe from Daddy (aka Grandpa Elliott) — perfect for pulled pork or ribs. Tangy, rich, and customizable!


Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup catsup
  • 2 tbsp cider vinegar
  • ¼ tsp Tabasco (optional — we usually skip it)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dry mustard (or 1 tbsp Dijon mustard)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until slightly soft.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Adjust flavors to taste.

Notes

  • Double this recipe for pulled pork!
  • This version skips Tabasco — customize to your liking.
